Having long been living in this alley, I know almost everyone here. It is, however, the housewives that I usually see in the daytime, the rest being either out working as family providers or away in school. All these housewives are kind and considerate.
My mother, for example, takes care of my sister's daughter even though she herself is busy with housekeeping,yet if she finds it necessary to go out shopping, she need not worry because there is always someone in the neighborhood coming over of her own will to help with our household chores. When suppertime is over, these housewives also like to gather at a certain place for a friendly chat about the daily goings-on in the alley or other things. They are also security-conscious, trying to keep each other out of harm's way. I is thanks to such mutual help and precaution against harm that we in the alley have lived so happy and so undisturbed a life.

Nowadays, we can see some boys and girls who live in a small world of their own. They bury themselves among books and are proud of themselves. They think that it will make them lose their face if they do housework for they often think themselves very noble.
These young people are wrong. In my opinion every student should have a knowledge of housework. After all, they will have a family of their own, and they should do their part in keeping a good home. Boys should also learn to do housework, for what will they do if they remain single? Though not all boys remain single, yet they will be very helpful in the family if they know some housework. Anyhow they will not lose anything, but, on the contrary, they will gain something useful.
For what I said above, we can find some examples of our fellow-students studying abroad. All young men do housework as girls do. Someone would argue that we can employ servants. This is true. However, what shall we do if the servant leaves us and all things are left to ourselves? We just cannot leave our clothes as they are and let worms and ants eat them up. And what can we do it we go and study in a foreign country where servants are out our means to employ?
We must work for ourselves. Why not start to learn to do housework now or else it will be too late?Everyone should learn to do housework. What do you think about my idea, boys and girls?

My name is Li Hua. I am from a worker's family. There are six people in my family. They are my grandfather, my grandmother, my father, my mother, my sister and I.
Every member in my family works for his or her own trade. My grandfather and grandmother are peasants. They do farm work every day in my hometown. My father is a senior engineer. He is now working in Africa, helping to build a power station. My mother is a teacher. She teaches English in a middle school. My sister, five years older than I, is a doctor in the People's Hospital of our county. She loves her work and does it well. I am a middle school student. I'm the contestant“F”. Fortunately, during the first three items, my scores were lower only than the first one. But in the last item----quick response, things changed. I knew that if only I could answer one question correctly, I would have the chance to go to Nanjing for the final contest. So no sooner had Miss Zhang, the hostess, given the question “name three of the novels written by Charles Dickens”, than I pressed the button. Though I know many of the novels written by him very well, such as Hard Times, Oliver Twist, A Tale of Two Cities, Old Curiosity shop, David Copperfield, I was so nervous at that time that I could only remember two of them. So ten points were taken away.At last I only got the third prize. But from taking part in the contest, I have learned a lot.

Self-confidence, as is approved by research and practice, has an amazingly powerful influence on the output of people’s activities. Patients who believe that they’ll recover soon generally cures faster than those who think they won’t. Students with optimistic characters usually provide better performance, even if they work the same hard as others. Although someone may regard such conclusion as superstitious, it does take place everyday and everywhere. Neural scientists have discovered that, when a man feels confident, his brain will secrete some kinds of hormone that boost brain activity and improve the efficiency of his immune system. In contrast, a melancholic brain is suppressed by other chemicals and cannot fully exhibit its potential.
To help building up self-confidence, you can take the following two steps. First, identify your merits and value them. If you constantly compare your weakness to others’ advantages, you’d only gain frustration rather than confidence. Second, track every little progress you’ve made and review them frequently. You may not possibly become perfectly successful in one day, but if only you can see yourself growing gradually, surely you’re on the right way.
There’re also other methods making you more confident that depend on yourself to find out, and they’re all necessary elements to make you more competitive in your area.
