Scientists in the UK are surprised that so many flowers are in bloom(開(kāi)花期) this winter. They said that in usual years, between 20 and 30 kinds of flowers and plants are open. However, on New Year's Day, scientists found 368 different kinds in bloom.

For many people in North America, the last week was the coldest of the year. To help some poor people keep warm, some kind people tied(系) scarves to trees in big cities for people in need.
"I AM NOT LOST!" read a note on a scarf tied to a tree in Wilmington, "If you need this to stay warm, please take it. It is yours. Be warm, and do something to help someone else today if you can."
