一、
誤用不定式作賓語
要表示漢語的“建議做某事”，英語通常用 suggest doing sth，而不能用 suggest to do sth。如：
他建議坐飛機去，可我認為這樣花費太大。
正：He suggested going by plane, but I thought it would cost too much.
誤：He suggested to go by plane, but I thought it would cost too much.
湯姆建議把房子賣了，但是安表示反對。
正：Tom suggested selling the house but Ann was against it.
正：Tom suggested to sell the house but Ann was against it.

漢語通常說“建議某人做某事”，但英語習慣上不能說 suggest sb to do sth，而說suggest sb’s [sb]doing sth。也就是說，suggest 后不僅不接不定式，而且也不接不定式的復合結構。如：
他建議我們早點動身。
正：He suggested that we leave earlier.
誤：He suggested us to leave earlier.
當然，我們也可以用后接 that 從句的形式來表達此意思(注意謂語用 “should+動詞原形”這樣的虛擬語氣形式)。如：
I suggest that we (should) have lunch right now.
我建議我們現在就吃午飯。
He suggests that we should all go to see the film.

混用其后賓語從句的語氣
suggest 后接賓語從句時，從謂語既可用陳述語氣，也可用虛擬語氣，其區別與 suggest所表示的意思有關：
1. 若suggest 表示“建議”，則其后接的 that 從句謂語通常用“(should)+動詞原形”這樣的虛擬語氣形式。如：
I suggested that she should go home.
我建議她回家去。
She suggested that I (should) be the leader.
她提議由我來做領導人。
2. 若suggest 表示“暗示”“意指”“表明”等義，則其后接的 that 從句要用陳述語氣。如：
What he said suggested that he was a cheat.
他說的話表明他是個騙子。

其后誤接雙賓語
要表示向某人提出某情況，suggest后不能接雙賓語，即不能用suggest sb sth，而通常用 suggest sth to sb。如：

正：I suggested a way out to her.
誤：I suggested her a way out.
若其中的直接賓語比較復雜(比如是that 從句)時，可考慮改用 suggest to sb sth。如：
我向他建議我們應該用另一種方式處理這個問題。
正：I suggested to him that we should tackle the problem another way.
誤：I suggested him that we should tackle the problem another way.

忽略相關派生名詞的相關用法
按英語習慣，suggest的派生名詞suggestion也具有與其詞根動詞相似的用法，如當suggestion表示“建議”時，若其后接一個that引導的賓語從句，則該從句也習慣上要用“should+動詞原形”這樣的虛擬語氣。如：
The suggestion that shops should open on Sundays led to a heated discussion.
關于商店星期日也應該營業的提議，引起了激烈的爭論。

suggest的用法詳解
一、有“建議”的意思。advise、propose也有此意，請比較它們用法的異同：
1) 都可接名詞做賓語
She suggested/advised/proposed an early start. 她建議早一點出發。
We suggested/advised/proposed a visit to the museum the next day.
我們建議明天去參觀博物館。
2) 都可接動名詞做賓語
I suggested/advised/proposed putting off the sports meet. 我建議將運動會延期。
They suggested/advised/proposed waiting until the proper time.
他們建議(我們)等到恰當的時機才行動。
3) 都可接that賓語從句，that從句用should+動詞原形，should可以省略。
She suggested/advised/proposed that the class meeting (should) not be held on Saturday. 她建議班會不要在星期六舉行。
We suggested/advised/proposed that he (should) go and make an apology to his teacher. 我們建議他去向老師道歉。
4) advise可接動詞不定式復合賓語，propose可接不定式做賓語。
I advised him to give up the foolish idea. =I suggested/proposed his/him giving up the foolish idea.
我建議他放棄那愚蠢的念頭。(suggest和propose在口語里可接動名詞的復合賓語)。
We proposed to start early. =We proposed starting early.
我們建議早一點出發。(接不定式不用suggest和advise)
二、有“提出”的意思。
如：He suggested a different plan to his boss. 他向老板提出了一個不同的計劃。
Xiao Wang suggested a way to solve the problem.
小王提出了一個解決這個問題的辦法。
三、有“暗示、表明”的意思，其主語往往是事物，而不是人。
1) 接名詞或動名詞做賓語。
The simple house suggested a modest income.
這座簡樸的房子表明(房主的)收入并不高。
Her pale face suggested bad health. 她臉色蒼白，看來身體不好。
The thought of summer suggests swimming.
一想到夏天，就使人們聯想到游泳。
2) 接賓語從句，從句用陳述語氣。如：
The decision suggested that he might bring his family.

The expression on his face suggested that he was very angry.

四、在主語從句It is suggested that…及名詞suggestion后面表示具體建議的表語從句、同位語從句都應用should+動詞原形，should可以省略。如：
