Making a Telephone Call
Clerk：Good morning. Wilson Association。
Brown：This is Mr. Brown speaking. I’d like to speak to Mr. Thomas。
Clerk：I’m sorry, but Mr. Thomas left here just a few minutes ago。
Brown：I’ve been trying to call him for the last ten minutes, but your line was busy. Will he be back soon?
Clerk：I’m afraid not. He is away for the rest of the day。
Brown：Is there other way I can reach him?
Clerk：I’m afraid not. He has gone out of this town on business. May I take a message?
Brown：I have a business appointment with him at 10 o’clock tomorrow morning, but I’m afraid I can’t make it。
Clerk：Would you like to make another appointment?
Brown：Unfortunately, I’m leaving here unexpectedly, and I may be away for several days。
Clerk：I see. I’ll tell Mr. Thomas that you’ve called。

B: Well, I have a lot of experience in this area. I have all the qualifications you need. I enjoy working with people. In my current job, I’m in charge of a team of eight people.
A: Well, you might be the person we’ve been looking for. Do you have any question?
B: Yes, if I were hired, when would you like me to start?
A: At the end of this month.
B: And how many accounts would I handle?
A: You’ll be supervising six brokers who manage a combined total of 310 accounts.
B: What kind of benefit package do you offer?
A: Two weeks of paid vacation in your first year of employment. You’re also eligible for medical and dental insurance. And we offer a generous retirement plan after 10 years of service. Do you have any other questions?
B: No, not at the moment.
