          唯美有道理的英語美文篇一

The day I become a mom那天我成為一位母親

The day I became a mom was not the day my daughter was born, but seven years later. Up until(一直到) that day, I had been too busy trying to survive myabusive(辱罵的,濫用的) marriage. I had spent all my energy trying to run a "perfect" home that would pass inspection each evening, and I didn't see that my baby girl had become a toddler(學步的小孩) . I'd tried endlessly to please someone who could never be pleased and suddenly realized that the years had slipped by(飛掠而過) and could never be recaptured.

Oh, I had done the normal "motherly" things, like making sure my daughter got to ballet and tap and gym lessons. I went to all of her recitals(背誦,朗誦) and school concerts, parent-teacher conferences and open houses - alone. I ran interference(干涉,沖突) during my husband's rages(狂怒,兇猛) when something was spilled(溢出,濺出) at the dinner table, telling her, "It will be okay, Honey. Daddy's not really mad at you." I did all I could to protect her from hearing the awful shouting andaccusations(控告,指責) after he returned from a night of drinking. Finally I did the best thing I could do for my daughter and myself: I removed us from the home that wasn't really a home at all.

That day I became a mom was the day my daughter and I were sitting in our new home having a calm, quiet dinner just as I had always wanted for her. We were talking about what she had done in school and suddenly her little hand knocked over(打翻,撞倒) the full glass of chocolate milk by her plate. As I watched the white tablecloth and freshly painted white wall become dark brown, I looked at her small face. It was filled with fear, knowing what the outcome of the event would have meant only a week before in her father's presence. When I saw that look on her face and looked at the chocolate milk running down the wall, I simply started laughing. I am sure she thought I was crazy, but then she must have realized that I was thinking, "It's a good thing your father isn't here!" She started laughing with me, and we laughed until we cried. They were tears of joy(喜極而泣) and peace and were the first of many tears that we cried together. That was the day we knew that we were going to be okay.

Whenever either of us spills something, even now, seventeen years later, she says, "Remember the day I spilled the chocolate milk? I knew that day that you had done the right thing for us, and I will never forget it."

That was the day I really became a mom. I discovered that being a mom isn't only going to ballet, and tap and gym recitals, and attending every school concert and open house. It isn't keeping a spotless house and preparing perfect meals. It certainly isn't pretending things are normal when they are not. For me, being a mom started when I could laugh over spilled milk.

          My Mother

After 21 years of marriage, I discovered a new way of keeping alive the spark of love.

A little while ago I had started to go out with another woman. It was really my wife's idea.

"I know that you love her," she said one day, taking me by surprise.

The other woman that my wife wanted me to visit was my mother.

She had been a widow for 19 years, but the demands of my work and my three children had made it possible to visit her only occasionally.

That night I called to invite her to go out for dinner and a movie.

"What's wrong, are you well?" she asked. My mother is the type of woman who suspects that a late night call or a surprise invitation is a sign of bad news.

"I thought that it would be pleasant to pass some time with you,"

I responded, "just the two of us."

She thought about it for a moment then said, "I would like that very much."

That Friday after work as I drove over to pick her up I was a bit nervous. When I arrived at her house, I noticed that she, too, seemed to be nervous about our date.

She waited in the door with her coat on. She had curled(卷曲,環繞) her hair and was wearing the dress that she had worn to celebrate her last wedding anniversary.

She smiled from a face that was as radiant(容光煥發的,光芒四射的) as an angel's.

"I told my friends that I was going to go out with my son, and they were impressed," she said, as she got into the car. "They can't wait to hear about our meeting."

We went to a restaurant that, although not elegant, was very nice and cozy(舒適的,愜意的) . My mother took my arm as if she were the First Lady.

After we sat down, I had to read the menu. Her eyes could only read large print. Half way through the entree(主菜) , I lifted my eyes and saw Mom sitting there staring at me. A nostalgic(懷舊的,鄉愁的) smile was on her lips.

"It was I who used to have to read the menu when you were small," she said.

"Then it's time that you relax and let me return the favor," I responded.

During the dinner we had an agreeable(令人愉快的) conversation, nothing extraordinary, but catching up on recent events of each other's lives. We talked so much that we missed the movie.

As we arrived at her house later she said, "I'll go out with you again, but only if you let me invite you."

          I agreed.

“How was your dinner date?”my wife asked when I got home.

“Very nice. Much more so than I could have imagined,”I answered.

A few days later my mother died of a massive heart attack. It happened so suddenly that I didn't have a chance to do anything for her.

Some time later I received an envelope with a copy of a restaurant receipt from the same place mother and I had dined.

An attached note said: “I paid this bill in advance(預先,提前) . I was almost sure that I couldn't be there, but nevertheless(然而,不過) I paid for two plates--one for you and the other for your wife.

You will never know what that night meant for me. I love you.”

At that moment I understood the importance of saying, in time: “I LOVE YOU" and giving our loved ones the time that they deserve ...

          Yesterday is a canceled check.

          Tomorrow is a promissory note.

Today is cash … Spend it wisely.

          唯美有道理的英語美文篇三

          Plant happiness

          Step one:

Plant yourself deep in a bed of faith, and pack it down solid and tight. Drench(浸潤,濕透) daily with positive thinking, and keep saturated(飽和的) just right. Mulch(覆蓋) often with forgivenss, for this will help you grow. Quickly remove any seeds of worry, for they will soon germinate(發芽,生長) , and keep out the weeds of despair.Nourish(滋養,供給) disappointments with hope whenever it is neeeded, and always stay cool and shaded when you feel irritated or heated(激動的) . Trim away(修剪掉) guilt or depression, for they create decay(腐爛,衰退) , and cultivate with happy memories as often as every day.

          Step two:

Harvest the lessons of the past; just dig, pick, and hoe(鋤) . And nurture the roots of the present, for now is when you flourish and grow. Start planting for the future; set your goals in a row(連續,成一長行) . Spade(鏟) the bed well for all your dreams to grow.

          Step three:

Remember that grief is a natural predator(食肉動物,掠食者) , so learn to tolerate some damage. Protect your garden with daily prayers, for this will help you manage. Bury the criticism and complaining, for they are injurious(有害的,誹謗的)pests. Sow the seed of love wherever you may go--for joy, love, and laughter are surely bound to grow. Although the thorns(荊棘,刺) of life may be here to stay, justsprout(萌芽) a smile along the way...and be thankful for what you have today!
