英語閱讀美文:媽媽的電話

　　摘錄：那天下班，我又打了通電話給媽媽，沒想到我還沒道歉，媽媽就先說：“孩子，早上都是我不好，因為擔心你會遲到，我一晚沒有睡好，很早就醒了……。”

　　英語閱讀美文:媽媽的電話

　　清晨電話鈴聲響起，我在睡意蒙朧中接起電話，聽到媽媽的聲音：“湯米，快起床!今天要開會。”

　　The phone ring sounded at cockcrow, disturbing me from my sleepy hangover with Mom’s words, “Tommy, time to get up! You’ll have a meeting today.”

　　我看看手表，便不高興的叫起來：“我不是說六點再叫我嗎?我還想多睡一會，現在都被你吵醒了!”

　　I checked it up at my wristwatch and cried with a grouch, “Didn’t tell you to call at six sharp? I do need more sleep, but now it is you who messed it up!”

　　媽媽在那頭沉默不語，我便切斷了電話。

　　Mom remained silent for quite a while before I rang off.

　　出門上班時，外面還在下雨，我在車站等公車的時候，旁邊站著兩個滿頭白發的老人，我聽見老公公對老太太說：“你看你，一整晚都沒睡好，那么早就催我，現在還要等這么久!”

　　I hurried out to catch the bus to work against a heavy rain. I stood at the bus stop with a couple of gray-haired husband and wife standing by my side when the old man grumbled to his old lady, “It is all your fault, you know, I didn’t have a good sleep the whole night. You woke me up at such an early hour and we have to wait so long!”

　　公車終于來了，坐在駕駛座上的是一個年輕人。

　　Here came the bus and it was a young driver.

　　我才剛上車，他就關上車門，我趕緊提醒他：“司機，后面還有兩位老人，他們還沒上車呀!”

　　No sooner had I got onto the bus than the door was closed. At this, I gave the driver an immediate reminder, “Hi, why not let the two elderly persons get on the bus?”

　　年輕人卻說：“喔，沒關系，那是我爸媽!今天是我第一天上班，他們專程來看我的!”

　　The young lad said with a big smile, “Oh, never mind! They are my old guys! Today is the first day I get a foot in the door of the bus company and they come over all the way from home to see whether I can start off on the right foot at work.”

　　他回頭和兩個老人揮了揮手，開動了車子。

　　He looked back, waving to the two elderly persons, and drove the bus off.

　　看到這幅景象，我想起媽媽早上的電話，心中愧疚油然而生。

　　It was not until I saw all this that I immediately thought of my mom’s call in early morning and a lingering sense of guilt crept over me.

　　When I got back from work, I called Mom to say sorry but to my surprise, Mom said, “Hi, Honey! It is me to blame to have called you at such an early hour. As I was worried that you might be late for the meeting, I didn’t sleep well but only wanted to give you a reminder. ”

　　那天下班，我又打了通電話給媽媽，沒想到我還沒道歉，媽媽就先說：“孩子，早上都是我不好，因為擔心你會遲到，我一晚沒有睡好，很早就醒了……。”
