Jiang Ge was a man of Zibo, Kingdom Qi in the period of the East Han Dynasty. His father died when he was young and he was very pious to his mother.
江革，東漢時齊國臨淄人，少年喪父，侍奉母親極為孝順。
He carried his mother on his back to avoid war and met with bandits on several occasions.
戰亂中，江革背著母親逃難,幾次遇到匪盜
They would kill him and he wept to say: "My mother is old and no one would support her." Seeing he was pious, the bandits let him go.
賊人欲殺死他，江革哭告：老母年邁，無人奉養，賊人見他孝順，不忍殺他。
Later he moved to Xiapi, Jiangsu and supported his mother by working as a laborer. He was poor and barefooted himself, but he supported his mother quite well.
后來，他遷居江蘇下邳，做雇工供養母親，自己貧窮赤腳，而母親所需甚豐。
He was recommended for his piety in the period of Emperor Ming and for his virtues and integrity in the period of Emperor Zhang and appointed general.
明帝時被推舉為孝廉，章帝時被推舉為賢良方正，任五官中郎將。
二十四孝經典民間故事：舜帝孝感動天
Shun, a legendary ancient emperor and one of the Five Emperors, had a surname of Yao and a last name of Chonghua. He was also known as Yushi or called as Yushun in Chinese history.
舜，傳說中的遠古帝王，五帝之一，姓姚，名重華，號有虞氏，史稱虞舜。
According to the legend, his father Gusou (literally the blind old-man), stepmother and half brother Xiang plotted to kill him for many times:
相傳他的父親瞽叟及繼母、異母弟象，多次想害死他：
They let Shun revamp the roof of granary and set fire under the barn, Shun jumped to escape with two bamboo hats in hand; they also let Shun dig a well, but Gusou and Xiang filled soil to the well while the digging, Shun then dug underground tunnel to escape.
讓舜修補谷倉倉頂時，從谷倉下縱火，舜手持兩個斗笠跳下逃脫;讓舜掘井時，瞽叟與象卻下土填井，舜掘地道逃脫。
Afterwards, Shun didn't resent and was still humble to his father and loved his younger brother.
事后舜毫不嫉恨，仍對父親恭順，對弟弟慈愛。
His conducts of filial piety moved the King of Heaven. When Shun cultivated in Mount Li, elephants ploughed for him while birds weeded for him.
他的孝行感動了天帝。舜在厲山耕種，大象替他耕地，鳥代他鋤草。
Emperor Yao heard that Shun was a filial son with the talents of dealing with political affairs, and married off his two daughters, Ehuang and Nvying, to Shun.
帝堯聽說舜非常孝順，有處理政事的才干，把兩個女兒娥皇和女英嫁給他
Through years of observation and tests, Emperor Yao selected Shun as his successor. After Shun ascended the throne as the Son of Heaven, he still called on his father respectfully, and granted the leud title to Xiang.
經過多年觀察和考驗，選定舜做他的繼承人。舜登天子位后，去看望父親，仍然恭恭敬敬，并封象為諸侯。
二十四孝經典民間故事：仲由百里負米
Zhong You, with the alias of Zilu or Jilu, was a man in the State of Lu during the Spring and Autumn Period. He was a favorite disciple of Confucius. He possessed frank and courageous characters, and was very filial.
仲由，字子路、季路，春秋時期魯國人，孔子的得意弟子，性格直率勇敢，十分孝順。
At an early age, as his family was poor, he often took wild vegetables as food, but still he carried sacks of rice for more than a hundred li to raise his parents.
早年家中貧窮，自己常常采野菜做飯食，卻從百里之外負米回家侍奉雙親。
After his parents died, he became a high-ranking official, and then was dispatched to the State of Chu, followed by a hundred chariots and with 10,000 zhong (ancient unit of capacity) of grain in store.
父母死后，他做了大官，奉命到楚國去，隨從的車馬有百乘之眾，所積的糧食有萬鐘之多。
Sat upon many layers of brocade mattress and enjoyed sumptuous feast before rows of tripods of food, he often missed his parents and sighed
坐在壘疊的錦褥上，吃著豐盛的筵席，他常常懷念雙親，慨嘆說
"Even if I am willing to go back to the times when I ate wild vegetables and carried rice for more than a hundred li to raise my parents, how could that be possible?"
“即使我想吃野菜，為父母親去負米，哪里能夠再得呢?”
Confucius praised: "You took care of your parents, which can be commented as doing one’s best during parents’ lifetime and missing parents after they depart out of this world!" (Zhi Si of Confucius Family Instructions).
孔子贊揚說：“你侍奉父母，可以說是生時盡力，死后思念哪!”(《孔子家語·致思》)
