英語的重要性 The Importance of English As the deepening of globalization, English is increasingly important, especially for those who communicate with foreigners. For one thing, English is an essential tool to know the outside world. Nowadays, most information broadcast in English, especially the advanced information. For another, learning English well, we can see a totally different world. For example, we can read original novels or enjoying English movies better. Sometimes, translation may eliminate the essence of original languages. We even would develop a different way of thinking, the English way, so different from Chinese way. In short, as a communicating tool, English plays an important role in our lives.

In recent years, extravagance and waste have become increasingly serious in some of the university campus. We can see that papers, bottles and cans are thrown away after use; food is wasted just because of its poor taste; clothes are discarded simply owing to their old fashion. As a consequence, people in mounting numbers put great emphasis on creating a green campus.
There are at least two criteria to distinguish what is green campus. On the one hand, natural resources must be conserved and made full use of, for example, we, as college students, should take the wise use of papers and second-hand textbooks into account. On the other hand, education to build up thrift habits must be promoted by relevant departments and professionals at various levels.
Accordingly, it is necessary for us to take effective steps. For one thing, university authorities should respond with the demand for more rigid conservation of our natural resources, such as water, electricity, and so on. For another, we should enhance the awareness of college students that creating a green campus is of utmost significance to both our society and ourselves.

Though we admire those who pride themselves on sticking to their ideals and principles, odds may not be against those who follow suit.Generally speaking, there are both advantages and disadvantages of following suit.
人們?cè)诿鎸?duì)誘惑時(shí)，尤其是當(dāng)成本和利益發(fā)生變化時(shí)，他們的行為也會(huì)有所變化。這樣的事情會(huì)在我們的生活中出現(xiàn)。當(dāng)大學(xué)生發(fā)現(xiàn)，獲得碩士學(xué)位會(huì)讓他們更容易找工作時(shí)，許多人就會(huì)決定參加碩士考試。在中國(guó)，這就叫做緊追趨勢(shì)。盡管我們羨慕那些堅(jiān)持己見的人，但是，那些緊追趨勢(shì)的人也會(huì)交到好運(yùn)。總體來說，緊追趨勢(shì)有好有壞。
Firstly, following suit is indicative of the fact that followers have no indispensable beliefs or fixed principles and hence they are flexible in the vicissitudes of lives. When the social context changes and opportunities arise, those followers are the first to respond and make decisions.Take the English training service for example. In early 1990s, increasing number of college graduates decided to study overseas and hence English training service was in large demand.Given that forerunners had make a fortune by providing training programs to those graduates,many businessmen just followed suit and established several training schools. Undoubtedly,those who followed suit when the market did not reach saturation did make money.
首先，緊追趨勢(shì)表明，人們沒有自己的信仰，或是一些規(guī)定的準(zhǔn)則，所以，他們會(huì)時(shí)長(zhǎng)進(jìn)行改變。當(dāng)社會(huì)變化，機(jī)遇增加時(shí)，那些追隨者將會(huì)首先進(jìn)行變化，并作出決定。我們以英語培訓(xùn)為例、20世紀(jì)90年代初，大量畢業(yè)生出國(guó)深造，促使英語培訓(xùn)需求量增大。那些為學(xué)生提供培訓(xùn)的企業(yè)賺到了錢，許多商人緊隨其后，建立了許多培訓(xùn)機(jī)構(gòu)。在市場(chǎng)尚未飽和時(shí)，那些跟風(fēng)的商人賺到了錢。
Secondly, it is noteworthy that following suit can avoid making mistakes. For those forerunners, there is no previous information at their hand, and therefore, it will take a longtime to learn and improve by trial and error. During the period of trial and error, forerunners will encounter unexpected difficulties and pressures. As a result, when those become successful in certain domains, they have proved that the path will lead to success, providing both pros and cons. On the contrary, followers need not experience the process of trial and error. They can just imitate their forerunners' proven pattern of behaviors and have easier access to success.There are also some disadvantages of following suit. When there are so many followers, the world will become crowded and odds are against those later followers.
第二，跟風(fēng)可以避免犯錯(cuò)誤。對(duì)于那些先驅(qū)者，他們并不擁有所需要的信息，所以，他們需要更長(zhǎng)的時(shí)間來學(xué)習(xí)，并在實(shí)踐過程中不斷進(jìn)步。在實(shí)踐的過程中，先驅(qū)者會(huì)遇到許多不可預(yù)期的困難和壓力。所以，當(dāng)他們?cè)谀骋活I(lǐng)域取得成功時(shí)，他們已經(jīng)證明這條道路是成功的，他們向人們提供了優(yōu)點(diǎn)和缺點(diǎn)。相反，跟隨者并沒有經(jīng)歷過實(shí)踐的過程。他們只是模仿先驅(qū)者所證明過的道路，并很容易的取得了成功。但是，跟風(fēng)也會(huì)有許多弊端。當(dāng)追隨者的人數(shù)過多時(shí)，他們失敗的幾率也會(huì)增加。
Furthermore, following suit prevents innovation and creation, which is to the detriment of our society. However, whether one should follow suit or not is not simply a to-be-or-not-to-be question. A basic assumption of individual person is that everyone is rational. So one should carefully calculate costs and benefits in specific circumstances before they decide to follow suit or not.
而且，跟風(fēng)阻止了創(chuàng)新和發(fā)明，這對(duì)于社會(huì)是不利的。但是，人們是否應(yīng)該跟風(fēng)不僅僅是一個(gè)是或否的問題。每個(gè)人都應(yīng)該是理性的。所以，人們應(yīng)該根據(jù)不同的情況來計(jì)算效率和成本，之后，人們才應(yīng)該決定是否應(yīng)該跟風(fēng)。
