　　推薦信的內容寫得具體一些還是較為籠統，這也是許多申請人經常難以把握的問題。一般來說，越是級別高的推薦人寫的推薦信越不能太具體，因為在歐美的觀念中，有很高社會地位的人往往是非常繁忙和社會交往非常豐富的，這樣的人能為申請者寫推薦信已經很說明問題了，如果寫得過于具體，連申請者的一些細節的活動都留下了深刻的印象，這樣的推薦信顯得太不正常，并不可信。反之，較為接近申請人的推薦人寫的推薦信就可以寫得具體一些。 一封好的推薦信不僅需要出自一位在某一方面了解你的人士之手，而且這封信對你的評價必須要有具體的例子來佐證。許許多多的推薦信都犯著一個雷同而且是致使的錯誤，那就是幾乎每一句話都堆滿了贊美的形容詞或名詞，但卻不舉一件事例來證明。這樣的推薦信是蒼白無力的，它不增加錄取委員會對你的任何了解，甚至會讓讀者產生疑問：你的教授，你的頂頭上司，為什么不能說出你任何一件具體的成就!
