In ancient times the most important examinations were spoken, not written. In the schools of ancient Greece and Rome, testing usually consisted of saying poetry aloud or giving speeches.
In the European universities of the Middle Ages, students who were working for advanced degrees had to discuss questions in their field of study with people who had made a special study of the subjects. Another disadvantage is that TV often causes people to become dissatisfied with their own lives. Real life does not seem as exciting to those people as the lives of actors on the screen. To some people, TV becomes more real than reality, and their own lives seem boring. The most negative effect of television might be people’s addiction to it. People often feel a strange and powerful need to watch TV even when they don’t enjoy it. Addition to TV screen is similar to drug or alcohol addiction. People almost never believe they are addicted.
Like everything else in the world, television has both advantages and disadvantages. And if you find yourself addicted, the only “cure” is to throw away the set and cut the cord.
